$5k will get Josh Olson to f***ing read your script – but..

.. are there are such things as a rich screenwriter? Writers in the film and TV business have traditionally fought like tooth and nail to get paid fairly.

I had a dream once in which the DGA (Directors Guild of America) was a massive building made out of solid gold. Butlers were available to deal with your every whim. Vending machines inside only took those massive gold medalions that you’d win at the DGA awards. This was a posh place.

Right next door to the DGA HQ was the WGA (Writers Guild of America) was which essentially a rickety outside toilet – the kind you used to get back in the days where people could only dream of having a restroom inside your house. This “toilet” had a sign on the door which read “Bring your own toilet paper and don’t forget to muck out afterwards”. Further more there was a massive queue stretching around the block.

God knows what you’d do if you were a member of both guilds.

I’ve never seen, met or heard of a rich screenwriter. Comfortable, yes. Never rich.

However, if there is somebody out there with a spare $5k AND has a script in development (perhaps you’re a reasonably well-off up and coming producer), then supporting Trailers from Hell via their Kickstart project would be a very good place to start..
