That eureka moment..

So I’m trying to establish a couple of solid story ideas that can progress relatively easy from just that – a story idea – to a working screenplay.

Today was a good day.

I crafted the preliminary premise for a couple of stories that I had an initial inkling about attempting over the past year. Today was a good day in that I could see quite clearly where the story had to start and where it had to go. My task now is to simply fill in the gaps. I have characters, some situations that I absolutely want to see, some dialogue that’s been playing over and over through my mind – random stuff like that.

I am a still a far way off in having to actually getting the stories whipped into shape before I can even start thinking about the technicalities of a screenplay, but I’m very pleased with myself at getting to this point where I can actually see a path through the twisty-turny maze of storytelling.

What pleases me most is that both stories avoid what I hope to ever create for a British film: urban (nope), gritty (absolutely not), gangsters (not a chance), zombies (give me a break), vampires (yawn), romcom (erm .. quite possibly for one of them- but it’s not what you think), period piece (well, similarly, one of the stories is contemporary with a couple of flashbacks to the distance past).

Hoorah – it CAN be done.
