Prometheus (iTunes) – Entertaining and good fun

I’ve finally bit the bullet and rented Prometheus on iTunes. Overall I thought it was a great film – entertaining and good fun. It’s by no means the best film I’ve seen this year, but it does what it says on the tin and I enjoyed it a great deal.

The visual effects are astonishingly good. MPC were the lead vendors and I would have to say that it’s the best thing they’ve done to date. Also great to see that the sysadmin team at MPC get full credits too. The landscapes are staggeringly beautiful and the spaceships are out of this world. Loved it.

I had to laugh, though, when David the android confronts the only surviving Engineer. He speaks to him in their language, only to find shortly after his head being ripped off. The Engineer then goes on a big punching spree with the remainder of the Prometheus crew.

I can only deduce that what David told him was this:

“Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries”

That would upset any terraforming species big time in my books. By luckily the Engineer suffers from a severe allergic reaction to mutant calamari at the end (he should have gone for the pasta dish), and all is well.

I don’t often buy movies these days (preferring to rent), but I’ve bought the Blu-Ray as I think this film is a keeper. Also very interested in listening to the audio commentaries that come with it.
