Well, the next five months are going to be interesting as I seriously get frugal having just committed to replacing my M1 13″ MacBook Pro with the new 14″ MacBook Pro (10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD). It’s one step up from the base model, but the extra 8Gb RAM and extra 512Gb of SSD will make this laptop a much more viable, long-term machine. As much as I love my M1 MacBook Pro with 8Gb RAM and 512Gb SSD, but realistically I do need at least 16Gb RAM for the kind of work that I do and for downtime activities.
But if you’re curious as to the power of the lowest spec 14″ MacBook Pro can do, well, I’ll hand it over to venerable Apple fan, iJustine and chum:
And then there is the fan noise, if/when the fans need to come on. I can attest to the 16″ Intel MacBook Pro sounding like a jet plane about to take off when the fans come on (which is often):
Update (28/10/21): SOLD!
Thus, I’m happy to sell my M1 MacBook Pro (8Gb RAM, 512Gb SSD, runs macOS Monterey 12.01) with the remaining AppleCare+ warranty until 2nd March 2024 for around £700 (or nearest best offer). Willing to ship it anywhere in the UK (insured) for a small fee, or can be picked up for collection. It’s in excellent condition and 8 months old. If interested, please let me know. Otherwise, it’ll probably go up on Shpock. I’ll post some pictures of it here on this post a bit later.
Update: (01/11/2021): SOLD!
I also have the Intel 16″ MacBook Pro that’s sitting around. It’s still good for macOS Monterey and a few more major macOS releases yet, I reckon. If not, it could potentially be repurposed as a Windows machine (or run Linux). Intel Core i9 2.3Ghz 8-core processor, 4Tb SSD, 32Gb RAM. The warranty has since run out, but it is in excellent condition and around 1 and a half years old. Looking for a similar price – maybe £900 or the nearest sensible offer. Again, if interested, please let me know.
In the meantime, when I have the unit and had a chance to get to use it – I’ll post a review. I owe a review of the iPhone 13 Pro Max at some point too. And eventually, the Apple Watch Series 7 (Graphite Stainless Steel).
